Review: Kiss of the Dragon by Christina James

Bianca dreams of a man who will love her for herself and not her money. When her stepmother’s jealousy leads to an unending stream of suitors vying for her hand in marriage, Bianca fears her dreams are over.

With the arrival of the dark and sexy Draco, the Black Dragon, Bianca plays the role of servant instead of a young lady of the castle to see where his true interests lie. But her deceptions lead to feelings she has never had before. Bianca is determined to have her dragon, but her stepmother has other plans.

Draco doesn’t deny his physical need to bed the lovely Bianca. Rather than give in to his desires, he threatens to ride away; however, his honor demands he stay and protect her from the lethal attentions of others. The first problem is figuring out who wants her dead. The second is opening his heart to love.

Inside Scoop: This medieval tale of French counts and gypsy intrigue contains violence, sneezing brothers, nasty horses and knights in dark armor.

Christina James captivates in her satisfying debut, Kiss of the Dragon, a historical romance.

Bianca de Niege, a beautiful young maiden, entertains suitors coming to her father’s castle. She wants to marry someone who loves her not only for her beauty but also for her caring heart and her intelligence as well. When two Baron-knights come to the castle, Bianca convinces her cousin, Lady Modesta, to trade places with her. Bianca meets the knights as a servant because she wants to see if they are interested in her or her dowry. Bianca’s plan backfires when she falls into the lap of Lord Draco d’Ensoleille, the Dark Dragon of Normandy, and comes face-to-face with a man who takes her breath away. Draco is the man of her dreams. Feisty and outspoken, Bianca takes risks to get what she wants, which I just loved about her character. A hardened knight with scars on his face and body, Draco never thought true love would be part of his future because a young maiden broke his heart years ago. The ice around Draco’s heart slowly melts as he gets to know Bianca. The chemistry between Draco and Bianca sizzles. Draco takes special care on Bianca during their first impassioned sexual connection, making me fall hard for his character. The mix of Draco’s love for Bianca and his need to protect her solidify him as a hero to die for.

With three-dimensional characters and multiple plot twists, Kiss of the Dragon is a highly entertaining romance. James has a beautiful and graceful writing style that I enjoyed very much. I am looking forward to other stories by this author.
