Review: Last Chance to Run by Dianna Love

To an undercover agent, she’s a Person of Interest. He’s interested.

Escaping the compound of a deadly international felon--with a fortune in rare, stolen coins hidden on her body--elite athlete Angel Farentino has to make the most important run of her life. Literally. With her father in prison, where he belongs, and a prior undeserved conviction hanging over her head, she has nowhere to turn and no one to trust. Definitely not law enforcement who railroaded her through a judicial nightmare. One step ahead of lethal men and dogs on her trail, she runs into the arms of a dark stranger willing to help her if she’d let him. But that would only get the sexy pilot killed.

Between figuring out who’s sabotaging his undercover work for the DEA and trying to save his baby sister from herself, Zane Jackson has enough on his plate. The last thing he needs is to get entangled with a woman who’s treading on the wrong side of the law. But when the long-legged distraction races into the middle of his operation and stows away on his plane, a primal need to protect forces Zane to risk everything, starting with his heart.

Note - This book was originally released as Worth Every Risk. When Dianna received the rights back she revised the story to the much larger romantic thriller version she'd always envisioned, which includes more romance and plenty of action.

I do believe I have just read the runningest heroine ever written. And yes, I made up a word. Angel will never see a last chance to run. She will take advantage of any opportunity to run, far away as fast as her legs will carry her. She has been betrayed by the one person who should have cared for her no matter what. The judicial system who should have treated her to a fair representation failed her. The employer who extended an olive branch that she didn’t realize was no boon. Everyone close to Angel has shown her one thing over and over again, do not trust anyone. So Angel runs.

Zane has a charter business which is actually a front for what he really does for a living. The charter business allows him to do what he loves most, fly. He is in fact working on a possible case when Angel comes running into his life. Knowing a scared woman when he sees one he allows for the ruse and lets her stowaway on his plane. It does not take him anytime to realize there is something major going on and she’s not talking about it under any circumstances.

I truly thought Angel and the running would grate my nerves. She seldom stops running, but it said so much about her character. She was running to protect those around her and to do the right thing. Sadly she got in her current predicament by doing the right thing. Zane is trying desperately to fill in Angel’s many blanks. He uses every skill he has to find out more about her, but hits every roadblock there is. Angel also has enormous trust issues that keep him from gleaming even the tiniest crumb.

As a reader I am still fairly new to romantic suspense. I have discovered I love the who done it aspect of romantic suspense books the most. The suspense of Last Chance to Run came in the form of when Angel would get caught and by who. Readers knew from the beginning who was after Angel and why. There was a bit of mystery to who was behind the threat to the bad guy, but it didn’t push my curiosity buttons until the end of the book.
