Review: Lay Me Down (Reveler #2) by Erin Kellison

Able to navigate sleep’s vast dreamwaters, wild child Maisie Lane makes easy money as a courier delivering packages from one dream to another. So what if her employers are on the shadier side of the law? Her sister thinks she’s living for the pleasure of the moment. Pleasure is involved—why shouldn’t it be?—but every step Maisie takes is part of a careful plan. That is, until she crosses into a dream so evil, she has no choice but to run.

Special Agent Steve Coll is tasked to recruit Maisie for Chimera, the organization that polices shared dreams. At first he’s taken with her funny and carefree spirit, then brought to his knees by her tough and passionate soul. Touching her is forbidden ecstasy, but Steve can’t resist breaking the rules with Maisie. A darkness is gathering, evil preparing to strike, and only Maisie stands between it and innocent lives. No matter what happens, Steve won’t let her stand alone—he’ll die before he leaves her side.

Lay Me Down features Maisie – Jordan’s little sister from Darkness Falls.  Remember her?  She dragged Jordan to her first Rêve, got in trouble and was rescued by Agent Rook.  It was obvious to everyone that this was not Maisie’s first Rêve and that she had some major talent.  Where Agent Rook got to work with Jordan, Maisie got handed off to his boss, Special Agent Steven Coll.

As I mentioned, this series needs to be read in order.  A good deal of what the Rêve – dream world – is all about is told in the first book.  Lay Me Down picks up where Darkness Falls leaves off.  All of the characters from Darkness Falls continue their story lines here in Lay Me Down.  This is a serialized series.

I had a much better understanding about what was going on in this book.  Though there was some further world building, the characters were familiar.  Maisie and Special Agent Coll are a fun couple.  Both of them continue to deny that they are attracted to each other right to the minute of the first kiss.  Combustible!  That was the only somewhat predictable thing in this labyrinth of a story.

Special Agent Coll isn’t exactly what he says he is.  Well, he is but, he is really so much more.  Maisie, we know is so much more than she lets everyone see, but there was some doubt about which way she would go.  Money and power?  OR Morality and potential love?

When we found out who the bad guy is – now that was a huge twist.  It will be interesting to see how that is going to end. *sigh*

Well, I am off to the next one.  I will say, if it grabs you, it won’t let you go.  Much like Rêve.  Hmmm . . .
