Review: Leaving Amarillo (Neon Dreams #1) by Caisey Quinn

Nashville meets New Adult in Neon Dreams, a dramatic, sexy series from bestselling author Caisey Quinn, about a country band’s rocky road to fame—and the ambition, dreams, and love of the people who make the music.

Dixie Lark hasn’t had it easy. She lost her parents in an accident when she was young and grew up in a ramshackle house on a dirt road in Amarillo with her ailing grandparents and overprotective older brother. Thanks to her grandfather, Dixie learned to play a mean fiddle, inspired by the sounds of the greats—Johnny and June, Waylon, and Hank. Her grandfather’s fiddle changed Dixie’s life forever, giving her an outlet for the turmoil of her broken heart and inspiring a daring dream.

Ten years later, Dixie and her brother, Dallas, are creating the music they love and chasing fame with their hot band, Leaving Amarillo. But Dixie isn’t enjoying the ride. All she can think about is Gavin, the band’s tattooed, tortured drummer who she’s loved since they were kids. She knows he feels the connection between them, but he refuses see her as more than his best friend’s little sister.

Convinced that one night with Gavin will get him out of her system, Dixie devises a plan. She doesn’t know that her brother has forbidden Gavin from making a move on her-a promise he swore he’d always keep . . . a promise that once broken will unexpectedly change the future for Dixie, Gavin and the band.

Who is this Author and why haven’t I heard of her before??? Her writing style, her passion for the plot, the characters…her words. I seriously think I’ve fallen in love!

When I first read the blurb I thought, “Hm, this could be interesting.” Well interesting is far from the word I’d give it. There is SO MUCH MORE than the blurb going on in this book…

Leaving Amarillo is the name of the band Dixie, Dallas and Gavin are members of. Growing up with, not much but each other, the band is really all they have besides each other. When the band is offered an opportunity to play at a 5-day festival that can land them a deal they’ve been dreaming of, they jump on it.

Dallas is Dixie’s brother and Gavin is Dallas’ best friend, growing up with each other after Dallas and Dixie’s parents died. After years of holding it in, Dixie chooses the one-week that she needs to be most focused to have a complete breakdown of her feelings for Gavin. And boy oh boy does she breakdown.

I couldn’t put this down. I tried. I have a family with 2 kids (who I completely ignored so that I could read this LOL). I was drawn from the opening scene and just couldn’t get enough. The way the anticipation was created, the emotions expressed, the…love that was felt through the writing. There was no way I wasn’t finishing this to see what happened…and I. WANT. MORE.

Don’t pick up this book because the girl on the cover is hot. Don’t pick it up because you like to read books about musicians and bands. Pick up this book because it’s AMAZING!!!
