Review – Mastered (The Enforcers #1) by Maya Banks

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Breathless Trilogy comes the first novel in the Enforcers series—a bold new direction in erotic romance that explores the games men and women play, and the price they’re willing to pay for pleasure.

What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

300 Review

I’m not even going to sugar coat this review. I freakin love Maya and have been obsessed with her work since I first started reading her KGI series. So needless to say, when I saw that there was a new series by her, I jumped on chance to read this. Boy of boy, I am NOT disappointed.

Evangeline is the epitome of good girl. She works long hard hours and lives in a crappy apartment so that she can send money home to her parents who can’t work. She doesn’t go out and she just recently gave up her V card to the guy she “thought” could have been the one. So after said guy completely humiliates her, her friends think it’s in her best interest to show up a bar he’ll be at looking hawt so that he’s reminded of what he’s missing. Well…. needless to say, things don’t go down that way. At. All.

Drake is a domineering businessman who knows exactly what he wants and pretty much always gets it. His world is completely turned upside down when Evangeline walks into his club. She nothing like the other girls who throw themselves at him and nothing like the girl he would normally seek. Yet there’s “something” about her purity that draws him in. Within 48 hours, she’s not only got him eating out of the palm of her hands, but the men that he employees and protect him.

Side note – Dear Maya: Please, PLEASE, make sure that each of “the men” gets their own story. I HAVE to read more about each and every one of them. They’ve already won me over in just the few pages I’ve read about each one.

I digress…Just when you think things are going exactly how they should, something major happens (did you really think I was going to tell you?) that leaves us with the serious cliffhanger that is most definitely going to be a thorn in my side until I get the next one (crossing my fingers I don’t have to wait too long). Although we’re left with a cliffhanger, I absolutely love that Maya writes us a little letter explaining why she’s done such a thing. And it makes complete sense…dammit.
