Review: Miami Moon (Vampire’s Lair #1) by Geoffrey Knight

Some of us are gatherers. Some are hunters. Some are healers.

Jason Cain ran away to Miami not only to escape his past, but to escape his future as well. He left behind a pretty girlfriend, a college education, and a promising career in the shadow of his father, a prominent Chicago surgeon. He also left behind a haunting tragedy, something that stopped him from becoming the man he was destined to be. But all that is about to change.

Under the Miami moon, Jason Cain is about to be chosen to fulfill his destiny—to become a healer.

Drawn into a forbidden world, plucked from the streets of Miami and taken to a mansion filled with danger and debauchery in the middle of a Florida bayou, Jason is about to experience male love, lust and longing like he has never known before. Here, the Vampire Xavier—the muscular, dominant master of his own lair—will give Jason the redemption and healing that he so desperately craves. The price—his mortality.

Miami Moon was a well written tale of the birth of new vampire Jason Cain. Left disillusioned after his failed attempt at stopping a mugging where the victim died, Jason left his old life to begin again in Miami. While searching for work, Jason stumbled across a bartender who directed him to enter a red-doored establishment.  Jason was about to enter a world which he previously knew nothing of but would soon find himself enmeshed in.

Geoffrey Knight wrote pure erotic sex as Vampire Xavier assuaged Jason with all things possible, saving his life and delivering animalistic sex to a young man who previously thought himself to be straight. Xavier was portrayed as dark, mysterious and gruff, with a pension for sex and sexual pleasure while Jason seemed slightly introverted but ready to take the next step in his life. Jason was ripe for the picking for the experienced vampire.

The sexual scenes were provocative and alluring. Demanding and energizing, thus creating an other-worldly vision which enticed Jason to grant permission to be turned into a creature of the night.

The story is part of a series and Miami Moon surmised that Jason will have further tales to deliver with an added bonus of vigilantism. I look forward to seeing the direction of Xavier and Jason’s lives as the series continues.
