Review: Night Unbound (Immortal Guardians #5) by Dianne Duvall

For centuries, Lisette d'Alençon has been a warrior against the dark. She fights alongside her brothers and comrades. But when the dreams start coming, she can't bear to confess them to the Immortal Guardians' command. Dreams of a dark-haired man with soft eyes and brutal wounds, a man her heart aches for--and a man she knows has been declared a traitor.

Zach is an exile, a loner. He won't defend himself against false accusations or grovel to those who should have faith in him. But he'll damn sure defend the woman who kept him sane against a plague of super-vamps that seems to have appeared from nowhere. The Guardians will blame him, and that will make Lisette suspect, too. With life, death and eternity on the line, who can they really trust?

I always get excited when I see an email from Dianne Duvall. Her emails mean that she has a book for me. I love her Immortal Guardians series. I enjoy the unique spin she has put on her vampires, their origins, and their many mysteries. I also like that every book is fresh and different and that she keeps introducing new foes and problems. Duvall definitely knows how to keep her characters and their lives very interesting.

Lisette to Zach “Like I want to tear your pants off, strip naked, and explore the Kama Sutra with you.”

After living a couple of centuries Lisette has a good handle on her life. She has her responsibilities within the Immortal Guardians. She assists in keeping her area of patrols free of vampire vermin. She has everything a woman born when she was could not possibly fathom having. She also has a bit of a crush on a certain winged man who enjoys sitting upon rooftops of the buildings that she inhabits.

Zach to Lisette “You could crush an entire bag of potato chips, sprinkle them on the sheets, and as long as I held you in my arms I wouldn’t notice.”

He may be far older but there are so many things that are new to Zach. Up until meeting Lisette, Zach has lived a very staid existence. As a cousin of sorts to Seth he knows there is more out there than he has ever seen. He just has never had the desire to experience more than he has. Lisette is a complete and total game changer for him. He will have to do a complete change of everything he has ever known to be with her. Even then it is still an incredible risk. While Zach may be happy with the paradise he has found with Lisette there are beings out there that feel he needs to stay away.

Dianne has also upped the ante on the big bad that the Immortal Guardians must protect the world from. The vampires are not nearly as easy to extinguish as they used to be. The vamps are stronger, smarter, and have the ability to kick some serious ass. This makes things more difficult for the Guardians to find out who is behind the new super-vamps. The Guardians are so busy with the new vamps that taking down the evil behind their army is a battle that all of them will have to contend with. Needless to say you don’t want to miss out on Night Unbound.
