Review – Playing It Cool (Sydney Smoke Rugby #2) by Amy Andrews

Harper Nugent might have a little extra junk in her trunk, but her stepbrother calling her out on it is the last straw… When rugby hottie, Dexter Blake, witnesses the insult, he surprises Harper by asking her out. In front of her dumbass brother. Score! Of course, she knows it’s not for reals, but Dex won’t take no for an answer.

Dexter Blake’s life revolves around rugby with one hard and fast rule: no women. Sure, his left hand is getting a workout, but he's focused on his career for now. Then he overhears an asshat reporter belittle the curvy chick he'd been secretly ogling. What's a guy to do but ask her out? It’s just a little revenge against a poser, and then he'll get his head back in the game.

But the date is better than either expected. So is the next one. And the next. And the heat between them…sizzles their clothes right off.

Suddenly, this fake relationship is feeling all too real…

Super hot, super sexy and did I mention super hot already? Dang. I’m seriously starting to wonder how the heck I missed the first installment to this series. Ok, so I didn’t read the first book in this series, and I went into this read pretty unprepared. But I didn’t feel like I missed anything. It’s almost as though this could be read as a standalone since the previous books characters weren’t a focal point in this one. Speaking of this one. Did I mention how hot this was?!!!

Dex is on the rugby team and needless to say, he has a “look” that he goes for. In fact, the entire team knows just what that “look” is because the moment they see someone who fits the bill, they pretty much become match maker. Not that Dex needs help with that. Harper is the woman currently possessing that “look”. And although dating isn’t something Dex is willing to commit to right now, Harper sure is hard to resist. Especially when Dex overhears the rude comments being thrown her way, causing her demeanor to waver. After agreeing to a date, some flirting and an unexpected text message. These two come up with a plan to “not-date”, but mess with Harper’s step mother and brother who have been very vocal about how they feel regarding Harper’s looks. Needless to say, the chemistry between these two is a little too hot to handle the friend zone and before they know it, they’re in a game of tug and pull, both with their bodies and hearts.

Did I mention how hot this was? Just checking. I mean, there are scenes that don’t involve actual sex that are hot. And the things that Dex says, my GAWD! Wowza. Ok, I need to focus. The only issue I had with this book was that I felt like the issue between Harper and her step family wasn’t really addressed or resolved. I know. Who cares, right? Harper wins the ultimate prize in the end, but it started off as such an important part in the beginning, I thought that there would have been more to the step story. Good thing the author digressed with those scenes. Nothing else really mattered after those <gigglesnorts>.

I would totally recommend this book. In fact, I’ll be picking up the first one since I already know that I’ll need the third as well.
