Title: Pride & Joey
Vance thought his pride meant everything to him…until fate sent Joey into his lair and into his heart.
Vance grew up the odd one out in a macho and very insular pride of lion shifters. Differences like enjoying the cool fall weather are bad enough-his pridemates would kill him if they learned he was gay. Still, his pride is all he knows. He'd never even met a shifter of another type…until he discovers an unconscious cougar male in his lair.
Joey is on the run and wants to keep Vance at arm's length, especially since someone very close to the lion is the root of all his troubles. But there is something irresistible about Vance, something which has Joey wanting more than he ever dared to dream.
When their lives are threatened, Joey must choose whether to sacrifice himself, or try to live and keep Vance close…for the very short remainder of his life.

As far as paranormal romance novellas go, I would have to say Pride and Joey was fun to read. It left me wanting more but overall it was a quick yet steamy read. It brings you all the best aspects of a shifter romance- fangs, fur, and all!
Joey has been kidnapped by a lion pride and knows his time is running out. He uses his last bit of strength to find a secret cave- belonging to a lion shifter. Just his luck. Vance is the only heir to one of the pride alphas who considered an adolescent lion and has no ‘alpha’ in him. Kind of a misfit and orphan now that his father is dead. Homosexuality is frowned upon and is punishable by exile. Vance looks at Joey and sees a future and is happy to finally be able to express his whole self.
I was disappointed in some areas of this novella as in somewhat contradicted itself. Especially when it came to the alpha description and their roles. It also felt like some scenes were left out that could have been pivotal in making this a five-star novella. I also think it should have been explained better that if the Pride was all about family and taking care of each other, why were so many trying to kill and reject each other?
With that said, I think the dynamics and storyline was awesome and has given me more of a glimpse into Miss Rhodes writing style. I have always liked her and Pride and Joey was no different. She brings a different twist to her paranormal romances that leaves you wanting more. Looking forward to Pride Before the Fall as it follows Brady in his journey to love and his ultimate decision.
I was gifted a copy of this novella from the JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review.
