Review: Reckless (Southwestern Shifters #3) by Bailey Bradford

Six months in his enemies hands has left Marcus Criswell a shell of the man he used to be—or so he thought until his destined mate rescued him from a cruel death.

Six months have passed since Marcus Criswell, Alpha Anax of the North American shifters, disappeared. Held captive, tortured and driven to the brink of madness, he still refuses to give up. Even when his captors abandon him, leaving him chained without food or water, Marcus will not accept his fate.

Until his fate changes with the appearance of his mate, Nathan Grant. Now if only the two of them can survive long enough to enjoy it.

Nathan Grant doesn’t know the first thing about shifters other than he is one and should avoid all others. He’s followed that advice all of his life. Raised by humans, Nathan is more than a little uncomfortable with the idea of being around any other shifters. One spontaneous day spent running as his wolf in Lincoln National Forest forces Nathan to reconsider what little he thought he knew, and to risk his life for one very unforgettable man.

Surviving isn’t easy, and Marcus is all too aware he’s only a shell of the man he used to be. He wasn’t broken completely, but he’s definitely fractured, and even finding his mate might not be enough to help him heal.

The third book in the Southwestern Shifters series is a riveting and emotionally gripping romance.  Held captive, tortured, and driven to the brink of madness and then left to die, Marcus Criswell refuses to accept his fate that is until his fate changes and his mate Nathan Grant rescues him, now all they have to do is survive long enough to enjoy it.

The fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on an emotional rollercoaster as the story progresses through the horrors of Marcus’ captivity and his recovery.  The author brings this dramatic romance to life with well written details that capture the imagination and draws the reader deeper into the story.  The reader can’t help but fall in love the strong compelling characters.

The attraction between Marcus and Nathan explodes from the pages and the frequent sex scenes of course are super spicy and hot.  The relationship has a few obstacles, the main one is Marcus’ recovery and his emotional turmoil of what happened to him, then there is the fact that Nathan doesn’t know the first things about shifters and actually has a fear of them and last but not least the enemies that still want Marcus dead.  Is it any wonder that the romance brings the two closer but has a few confusing issues to be dealt with.  The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the emotional turmoil and drama that occurs throughout the book, especially as Aidan and Zane and Mika and Gabe along with others are all still looking for him, but as it’s been six months are having a hard time dealing with their missing Alpha Anax and brother and friend.

The author has created a fantastic world of shifters with lots of issues that really stir the emotions of the readers and keep them coming back for more the more they fall in love with each and every one. Also, I must warn the readers to be prepared to be moved to tears by Marcus and Nathan’s story.  I have decided that this series is now on my absolute favorites list and I can’t wait to read the next one.
