Review: Red Skye at Night by Ashe Barker

Two strangers, one outrageous proposal, and the journey of a lifetime.

How far would you go? To Skye and back?

A random accident as a teenager wrecked Hope Shepherd’s aspirations to be an international athlete. Now working as a taxi driver, Hope is unsettled by a sexy Canadian she picks up at the airport. With his good looks and easy charm, he’s just the sort of man she can do without. But can she afford to turn down his offer?
He offers her a small fortune to drive him to Scotland, where he hopes to discover his ancestral roots. And not just anywhere in Scotland. Harry McLeod wants to go to the Highlands, to the Isle of Skye.

He is persistent, and Hope needs the cash. But what are the real terms of this outrageous deal?

Harry McLeod desires Hope, and the attraction is shared. If he can get her in his bed—or better still, tied to it—will she allow him to peel away her protective layers to release her inner submissive? Harry is stern, uncompromising, outrageously sexy and utterly irresistible. How will Hope respond to his dark brand of sensuality? Does he offer more than a generous fare and a few erotic encounters?

When they reach Skye, a feud spanning four generations challenges all that Hope thought she was coming to know about submission. Will it be enough to convince her that this could be a relationship to stand the test of time?

Reader Advisory: This books contains scenes of anal play.

Anyone who has read Ashe Barker’s previous books is in for a treat with Red Skye at Night. The two main characters, Harry and Hope, are well written and completely likable. We are given enough of their back-stories in the beginning to get who they are. As their separate stories unfold and we learn more which makes both of them even more likable. There’s really good pacing in this story. . And it all ends in a HEA all the way around. So that was the quick Reader’s Digest version here’s it expanded.

I liked Hope. Okay, the truth is there were a few moments I didn’t but I got over it quickly. Same thing with Harry. Only with him it wasn’t actually a love at first read thing. My initial impression of him was less than stellar but by the end of the first chapter I was singing a different tune. His crazy proposition of having her drive him and how much he was willing to pay *YIKES!* but she said yes and off they go on quite the adventure.

Great dialog kept this story rolling along very well that is on top of the hot kinky BDSM sex Harry introduces Hope to. The kink has a natural progression from vanilla to totally submission so it doesn’t seem too ridiculous. While it seemed Harry and Hope’s hook-up seemed a bit quick the story itself never seemed rushed.

I always love stories that involve countryside descriptions and Ms. Barker always does a wonderful job with details without being too much. It makes me feel the countryside is a character in her stories all on their own. As for the real secondary characters, from Daisy to the great-grands, all were absolutely stellar and lovable. Oh my, the Great-grands! I was caught completely be surprised by them. Not going into details but let me just say, THAT I did not see coming. The whole story ends a very satisfying HEA I’ve come to expect in Ms. Barker’s books.

A well written book with great characters and great kink!
