Review: Resilience (Southwestern Shifters #5) by Bailey Bradford

Todd Benson almost died for the freedom to love Adam Soames. Now they face obstacles that once again place both of them in danger.

Todd Benson had figured he’d be alone forever. He had the best friend any guy could want in Gabe Staley, and Gabe’s partner Mika was okay, too. But a personal life and any kind of true happiness was out of the question. With Todd’s bigoted and violent parents, and the Sheriff he worked for trying to torture animals and Gabe, Todd knew he’d do well just to survive his job as a deputy in the small town of Shasta, Texas.

Adam Soames needed to get away from the big city. His best friend had found his perfect man and moved away, and Adam felt lost in the city. The opportunity to have his own veterinary practice in a small town sounded perfect. He didn’t know he’d soon be living a life he’d only dreamed of—or the cost he and the man he loved would have to pay.

Together Todd and Adam face seemingly insurmountable odds, from Todd’s recovery from a vicious attack to the prejudices and trials many couples have. Then there’s the big shocker of finding out Gabe and Mika aren’t humans, exactly, but wolf shifters instead, and a whole new door is opened and trouble soon comes barrelling through it.

Two men face insurmountable odds while trying to reach for the HEA in this riveting m/m shifter romance.  Todd almost died to have Adam as his mate but once that danger was put away, they now face shocking secrets that opens a whole new door that has trouble barreling through it.

In this steady paced plot, Todd and Adam’s world is knocked off its foundations when they learn the truth about Gabe and Mika. The author describes every scene with well written details that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated drama and suspense draws t the reader deeper into the story.  If you read Gabe and Mika’s story, then you know that the charming characters in this book are strong, compelling, grab the reader’s attention and deserve their HEA.

Todd and Adam can’t deny the all consuming attraction between them which causes quite a few problems for this deputy and the local vet but the resulting fiery inferno of passion scorches the reader and makes everything worth for these two.  The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the drama and their emotional pain because these two characters certainly capture the heart.

The story is a little longer that the others and covers a larger span of time including lots of drama and passion along the way.  Besides the excitement of living in Shasta, Texas, there is lots of excitement and drama that results from Gabe and Mika’s reveal, but since I don’t want to give away any spoilers, I’ll just give you a hint, with a few surprising twists and turns, they get to go on a mission to another country. While parts of this story seem to drag a little bit, those parts are mixed in with lots of excitement and drama and provide a deeper look into Todd and Adam’s life and lead to their rather unique HEA ending.
