Review: Reverence (Southwestern Shifters #6) by Bailey Bradford

Harley was thrust into the realm of the supernatural at the hands of a sadistic shifter, and his world will never be the same.

Harley’s one-night stand turned into a nightmare when a vengeance-seeking shifter kidnapped him to use Harley as a pawn. Things didn’t go so well for his abductor, or for Harley. He’d never have believed there were werewolves...shifters, rather, in the real world. After being freed, his mind is a mess and he doesn’t know how to cope with the things he’s experienced. Fear and anger are powerful emotions, and when they are out of control, the harm caused can scare one’s soul.

Val Whitley only ever had one goal in life—to serve in Marcus Criswell’s guard. Val had looked up to Alpha Anax Criswell for a long time and was honoured to serve him. When an accident alters Val’s life, possibly forever, he fears he’ll be of little or no use to his Alpha Anax. What good is a physically damaged shifter, especially one as messed up as he is?

When Val is sent out on an order from Alpha Anax Criswell, he thinks he’s being pawned off since he’s blind in one eye and is less than any other shifter. He doesn’t expect to find a strength he never knew he had, or the love of a destined mate...

Reader Advisory: This book makes reference to assault, physical and threatened sexual in the past.

One man’s fear is pushed aside when he meets a man he can’t resist in this captivating m/m paranormal romance.  Harley got introduced to shifters by a sadistic one and now his mind is a mess and he doesn’t know how to cope with the things he’s experienced.  Val horribly injured in the attack on the compound is sent to keep an eye on Harley and finds the love of a destined mate and a strength he never knew he had.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers hovering on the edge of anticipation with lots of suspense, drama and passion. The author brings the story to life with well written and well orchestrated scenes that capture the imagination and draw the reader deeper into the story.  The charming characters captivate the reader from the very beginning and ensure that they want to know more.

The attraction between Val and Harley is hampered by what Harley endured by the sadistic shifter and Val’s fear of not  being good enough now that he’s damaged, but that doesn’t stop the mating and it soon explodes into some super hot lovin’ that burns up the sheets.  The reader can’t help but get taken in by these two characters – they’re both charming and scarred but make the reader smile and chuckle with some snarky dialogue.

Marcus sent Val to keep an eye on Harley to protect him from other shfiters and it’s a good thing he did too. But it turns out that the shifters he has to be protected from aren’t who they thought they would be and more drama and excitement unfurl adding spice to the story.

This story is enjoyable and entertaining with some surprises and it introduces some new characters both friend and foe.   I think Harley and Val just might be my new favorites of the shifters although I do wonder if Harley will ever agree to be turned into a shifter.
