Review: Sea Change by Cindy Spencer Pape

Shot at by drug dealers and left to drown, marine biologist Heidi is rescued by the hottest boat bum she’s ever seen. Tall, dark and handsome, Jake is every girl’s dream. But with her best friend missing or dead and the bad guys still after her, the last thing she has time for is romance.

As a merman, exiled from his colony and under a curse on when to shapeshift, Jake can’t afford to be around humans, especially a marine biologist who might discover his species. But he can’t throw Heidi to the wolves of the drug dealers and possibly corrupt law enforcement. He’ll fight drug lords, pirates and even the gods to protect her. More complications arise when Jake’s family shows up looking for help, but the biggest problem of all is whether Jake and Heidi can resist the massive attraction that grows between them.

After being shot by drug dealers and left for dead, Heidi is rescued by Jake, every girl’s dream. Jake is a merman and knows that Heidi could expose his secret. Together they end up rescuing each other in this captivating paranormal romantic suspense.

This fast pace and smooth flowing plot thrills readers with a fascinating world full of strong compelling characters. Jake and Heidi decide that they can give in to their attraction as long as they both accept that there are no strings attached. The reader can’t help but get caught up in their story as their passion burns up the pages and the excitement keeps readers on their toes. The reader also can’t help but fall for the sexy merman as he protects Heidi and helps her deal with what happened all while fighting his attraction for her and dealing with his own emotional turmoil.

There is never a dull moment in this story as spine tingling excitement and danger first from the drug lords but then from a rogue mermaid when Heidi and Jake are asked for help by a god. The well written scenes and details capture the imagination and bring the story to life while the well orchestrated suspense draws the reader in and ensures that the reader can’t put the book down until they have read every last word.

The fascinating world is a great blend of mythology with the author’s own refreshingly different spin, a touch of gods, interesting elements, intriguing characters, excitement and surprising twists which ensures that the reader never gets bored. The author has this as a stand-alone story but if you ask me, she could create some wonderful stories with the characters that appeared in this book. I do believe that this is the first book that I have read by this author but I will certainly be looking for more books by her.
