Review: Shameless Surrender (Surrender #1) by Jaymie Holland

Chessie burns for Nick, but locks the flames in her heart. She’s not a stunning beauty like the women he dates—but when she finds an envelope waiting for her on her desk…dare she open it and accept the invitation into the unknown?

Chessie Lane burns for Nick Tarantino, but circumstance has forced her to keep the flames locked deep in her heart. Drop-dead-gorgeous bosses only fall in love with their administrative assistants in the movies. Besides, she’s plain and naïve about his world, nothing like the flawless cultured females he knows. Still, no other man has existed for Chessie since she met Nick. All her erotic fantasies revolve around this powerful man and his sexy, commanding voice. When Nick sells Tarantino Investments, Chessie is heartbroken and sure her fantasies will never come true. But when she receives a mysterious invitation, her life changes…forever.

Shameless Surrender the first book of a new series call Surrender by Jaymie Holland and features Chessie and Nick.  Chessie has worked as Nick’s personal assistant for three years and has been in love with him for almost just as long. Believing Nick has never “seen” her, she hides away from him thinking she was not good enough for him.  Year’s of her mother’s unending brain washing put those thoughts in her head.  She’s never been good enough for her mother, so why would she ever think that she woud be good enough for him. He can have anybody he wants. I felt for Chessie.  Even though you know in your head these hurtful things are not true, you feel them, and they are hard to overcome.

Nick has certainly “seen” Chessie, but because of the company’s no fraternization rule, he could never act on it.  When the opportunity to sell his business presents itself, Nick takes the chance to finally go after the woman he has secretly been in love with.  Nick was such a truly nice guy. Very family oriented and caring!  I loved his interactions with Chessie and their chemistry was hot!  He did a great job in making Chessie feel special and that she deserves to feel good about herself!

I loved how Chessie had such a great support system with her best friends and her roommate!  They all really seem to have her back in all things-and that means so much to me!  I also liked how Nick went about pursuing Chessie.  She had no idea Nick ever looked her way, yet alone his feelings toward her!  I was surprised that he took her to a BDSM club on their first date though.  I also did not care for the trick he intended to play on her with his fellow dom and friend. She was new to the whole scene, and then to give her such a huge test right off the bat was a bit harsh.  I also thought he went too far for their first scene. I would’ve liked a slower introduction for her-regardless if she ended up liking what he did in the end.

The only other thing that made this a 4 instead of a 5 star read was that I wanted to witness some of their interactions for the three years prior as boss and assistant.  I felt if we would’ve had some flashbacks or something to give us a little bit of their history, I wouldn’t have felt like I was dropped into the story having missed the beginning.

I did enjoy reading this book and Nick and Chessie’s romance!  I am a fan of the dual POV as I love to know what each is thinking. It worked well in this story! Seeing as this is book one in this series, I hope to see books with her friends’ stories pop up soon!
