Review: Soul Scorched (Dark Kings #6) by Donna Grant

Darcy was floating on a cloud of pure passion. Everywhere he touched, Warrick was leaving a mark on her, forever changing her. She could feel it through her skin and muscle, through bone and into her soul. It was as if he was changing her. And she welcomed it…

Her power is a blessing.

Born on the Isle of Skye, Darcy is a beautiful woman of many gifts. Fortune-telling is her forte, and she remains the only Druid who could unlock the secrets—and desires—of a Dragon King. His name is Warrick. And now that Darcy’s seen into his dragon heart, nothing will ever be the same…

His passion is a curse.

Warrick never intended to put Darcy in harm’s way. But ever since she revealed a shocking truth, Darcy has been hunted by the Dark Fae, who want to use her powers for their own evil purposes. Now it’s up to Warrick to do whatever it takes to keep the woman who sets his soul on fire safe. But protecting Darcy means putting himself—and his entire race—in jeopardy. Is his desperate longing for one woman worth the risk of losing everything… for eternity?

Living in Edinburgh away from her family on the Isle of Skye, Darcy spends her days in her shop reading palms, telling the secrets that the tarot cards show, and accepting a challenge that will irrevocably change her life forever. She never expected the change though. She thought her magic would protect her from the consequences. Still it was a challenge and she wanted to test out just how powerful that magic was. Her powerful magic drops her into the center of the Dragons and the Dark and a war she never knew existed.

Keeping an eye on the Druid and finding out her secrets is an easy enough task for Warrick. Unlike most of his brethren he likes the curiosities that are humans. He has always been fascinated by them. Warrick finds them intriguing. He finds that Darcy captures his attentions for a completely different set of reasons. He’s always believed that he never wanted a mate, until Darcy. The problem here is the fact that the reason she has captured the attention of the Dragons puts her not only in peril from numerous enemies, it also puts her at the top of Con’s most wanted list.

I think I’m at the point in this series where I’m enjoying the shift of character personalities and traits and motives more than I’m enjoying the new couples. Constantine has went from concerned leader who does what is best for his people to a complete and utter asshole. Rhi has been a favorite of mine from the very beginning. I’m actually starting to worry about her the same way everyone else has been for several books now. She does a few things here that really make me wonder where her character is going. Then of course there is Ulrik. I love cheering the underdog and hoping for the best out of the villain and their true motives. That keeps Ulrik a favorite of mine. He is still doing many questionable things for far too many different unknown reasons. I love it!

Donna has had Con waking the sleeping Dragon Kings for the impending war. Soul Scorched introduces several new Dragons while mentioning quite a few that are awake and coming into the fold after their time away in their hidden sleeps. I’m so happy that this sexy paranormal series will continue for a while.
