Review: Souls Unfractured (Hades Hangmen #3) by Tillie Cole

"For fractured souls are like magnets.
Drawn to collide into an impossible bliss…"

Labeled a ‘Cursed’ woman of Eve from birth, Maddie has endured nothing but pain and repression at the hands of The Order’s most abusive elder, Moses. Now living with her sister in The Hangmen’s secluded compound, finally, Maddie, is free. Free from the suffocating faith she no longer believes in. Free from endless years of physical and mental torment.

Just… free…

At age twenty-one, the timid and shy Maddie is content to live within the confines of her new home—safe from the outside world, safe from harm and, strangely, protected by the Hangmen’s most volatile member; the heavily pierced and tattooed, Flame.

Flame.

The man who ceaselessly watches over her with his midnight dark and searing eyes. The man who protects her with a breath-taking intensity. And the man who stirs something deep within her numbed heart.

But when circumstances conspire for Flame to need HER help, Maddie bravely risks it all for the broken man who has captivated her fragile soul.

The Hangmen’s most infamous member, Flame, is ruled by one thing—anger. Plagued by haunting demons from his past, an all-consuming rage, and isolated by an abhorrent hatred of being touched, Flame's days are filled with suffocating darkness, pierced only by a single ray of light—Maddie. The shy, beautiful woman he cannot purge from his thoughts. The woman he has an overwhelming need to possess…
... the only person who has ever been able to touch him.

Flame’s mission in life is to protect Maddie, to keep her safe. Until a trigger from his troubled past sends him spiraling into madness, trapping him in the deepest recesses of his disturbed mind.

His Hangmen brothers fear that Flame is beyond saving.

His only hope of salvation: Maddie and her healing light.

Dark Contemporary Romance.
Contains explicit sexual situations, violence, disturbingly sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language, and very mature topics.
Recommended for age 18 years and over.

300 Review

I’m beyond picky when it comes to who I take book recommendations from. The author Tillie Cole came up in conversation at a book convention with someone who I have few books read in common with. I purchased this entire series based upon her love for Souls Unfractured. Thank you Summer.

At the end of It Ain’t Me, Babe the Hades Hangmen rescue Mae and her two Cursed sisters Lilah and Maddie. It is that scene where Maddie hugs Flame the twitchy, can’t be touched, psychoist of the Psycho Trio that made me ready to not only read how Cole would make this couple work, but I just had to know what had happened to Flame to make him the way he is.

“I know I’m different. I know I don’t see the world like everyone else does. But I want to see your world, Maddie. Even if it’s the only one I’ll ever understand.”

Yeah. I just kind of loved Flame. His story is a sad one. He’s the poster person of how not to treat another living being. Tillie didn’t tell his story in a way that you pity him though. He’s been through hell and has the scars to prove it. He’s strong. He’s a little different. His coping mechanisms are not something that many will understand. His attraction to Maddie is straight up obsessive and really heartwarming. He knows deep down that he’ll never be able to touch her or give her the love and affection he feels that she deserves. He still vows to protect her as his.

“Would you like… would you like to try?”

Of the three Cursed women who have found themselves living within the walls of the Hades Hangmen compound Maddie is the quiet timid one that has fully embraced living in her shell and watching the world from the window. She also enjoys watching Flame watch her. He is the only one that has ever made her feel safe, comfortable. She knows that he would never hurt her or allow her to ever be hurt again. It is that level of trust and that bond that makes their love story so sweet. Even with all the violence, past hurts, and what Maddie and Flame have to overcome to start a relationship their story turned out to be so heart wrenchingly sweet.

*Motorcycle saddlebags are NOT like saddlebags for a horse. There is no way Beauty “loaned” a saddlebag to Maddie for Flame to attach to his bike. Beauty could have loaned Maddie a bag that is shaped to slide into a saddlebag for travel purposes. Motorcycle saddlebags stay attached to the motorcycle the majority of the time.*
