Review: Still by Ann Mayburn

Dr. Michelle Sapphire and Gunnery Sergeant Wyatt Callahan formed an unbreakable bond and an unacknowledged, forbidden attraction to each other while serving together in Afghanistan. Their lives are forever changed when a mortar attack grievously wounds Wyatt and Michelle brings him back from the brink of death. But when they both return to the civilian world, Michelle discovers that her rock-solid Marine is suffering from severe PTSD and may even be suicidal.

Wyatt Callahan fell hard for the aristocratic blonde doctor the moment he laid eyes on her. After reentering civilian life in his hometown near Austin, Texas, Wyatt is plagued by nightmares of the death and suffering he witnessed during the war. He’d love to reach out to Michelle, but — Michelle is a Dominatrix, and she has made it very clear to Wyatt she isn’t interested in a relationship with anyone who doesn’t accept her lifestyle. An Alpha male to the core, he can't imagine the appeal of being submissive. At the same time, the idea of serving Michelle, of being everything she wants and needs, rings true in his wounded soul.

Michelle has dark secrets of her own, and together with Wyatt she will have to battle her personal demons during their emotional journey of healing, redemption, and love.

Still, the first book of the Long Slow Tease series, is an emotionally charged BDSM romance. Ann Mayburn entertains with her well-drawn main characters, Michelle Sapphire and Wyatt Callahan.

Wyatt, a former marine, suffers from PTSD and is really in bad shape when he finally reaches out to Michelle for help in slaying his demons. The question becomes is he man enough to do so what Michelle requires from him? Michelle wants Wyatt to become her submissive. Wyatt, realizing he wants Michelle so badly, accepts her terms even though he is a sexy alpha male. Wyatt struggles with letting Michelle take control and finding peace in that role, making him an endearing character. Michelle, a Domme, has been attracted to Wyatt from afar ever since they met when serving together in the military. Michelle, who is suffering from survivor’s guilt after witnessing the murder of her fiancé, feels vulnerable when she realizes she has fallen in love with Wyatt. Michelle’s need to be the dominant in her relationships and her emotional vulnerabilities, believing she is betraying her fiancé’s memory, make her a complex and compelling character. The chemistry between Michelle and Wyatt sizzles as Michelle teaches Wyatt about this new lifestyle. The various intimate BDSM scenes between Michelle and Wyatt are unique, impassioned, and scorching hot!

Still is a satisfying smooth-moving story that leads to a beautiful happy-for-now ending, leaving you anxious to see where the relationship will go in the next novel.

First- Lusty Penguin-Ha! I’m near Pittsburgh so that brought to mind a Penguin’s fan being lusty. Not too unusual…

That aside, thank you so much for the lovely review! I’m so glad you liked it and even more importantly, thanks for giving FemDom a chance. See, not all Dominatrix are evil, vaguely German, man haters and not all male subs are doormats. 😉
