Review: Strange Days (Shadow Promised #1) by Rebecca Royce

Dodie Chase has a terrible crush on her neighbour, Christian Casillo. But a man like him—karate blackbelt, exotic dancer and romance novel cover stud—could never be interested in a mouse like her.

And thoughts of romance fly out of her head when her best friend’s boyfriend is brutally murdered, leaving Mindy white-haired and in shock. An evil clown, a creature from Dodie’s worst nightmares, is pursuing everyone she loves—and she starts to realise that Christian is among them.

This erotic horror novella is a spine chilling and thrilling romance.  Dodie Chase has a terrible crush on Christian Casillo, but all thoughts of romance fly out of her head when she realizes that an evil clown straight out of her nightmares is stalking and killing everyone she loves – including Christian.

This fast paced plot keeps readers shivering in anticipation and sends chills down their spine with suspense, danger, evil, and romance.  The author paints such vivid images of her well written scenes and events that the reader feels like they should be looking over their shoulder and under the bed.  The tension builds throughout the story as the demon stalks Dodie and the danger escalates.  The characters are strong, compelling, easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between Dodie and Christian radiates heat from every page and the hot and steamy sex scenes might keep be the only thing keeping them warm during the cold inducing fear of the demon stalking them.  Dodie vulnerability captures the heart and draws the reader deeper into the story.

The author has created a world of demon hunting with a few unexpected twists that makes for a refreshing change and gets the adrenaline pumping and the passion rising at the same time.  While a little too short, the story was enjoyable and entertaining and I can’t wait to read the next Shadow Promised story.
