Review: Stranger in my House (A Murder in Texas #2) by Mari Manning

When Kirby Swallow assumes her half sister’s identity to help figure out who's threatening her, she finds herself in way over her head. On the remote Texas ranch her sister calls home, she confronts a growing list of suspects and a rising body count—all while wearing her sister's 4-inch heels. The only problem is the sexy ranch manager, Seth Maguire, is starting to catch on to the charade. The attraction between them is undeniable—and soon, what starts out as just a one-night stand, turns into something much deeper. But someone on the ranch is out for blood…and Kirby's next.

A failing ranch, a stubborn ranch manager, a spoiled heiress, and a lost half sister just trying to find her place clash in this novel by Mari Manning. Kirby Swallow recently lost her grandfather when her sister Frankie shows up at her door; bruised, scared, and begging for help. The cop in her realizes she shouldn’t but is bound by oath to protect and the blood of family encourages her to help the only family she has left. They cook up a plan for Kirby to take her place and catch a kidnapper. But things at the ranch are not what they seem!

Hawt Damm! Stranger in my House is one of the best mystery, suspense romances I have read in a looooong time. I was reluctant to read it as it is the second in the series but I am so glad I didn’t pass it up. There were so many twists and turns that I could not guess how the end would take place. Yet when the ending approached Miss Manning gave enough clues to help the reader solve it just as Kirby did. Blackmail, murder, lost mother, stolen goods, sexual tension, small town gossip, this novel seriously had it all!

I loved all the characters except Seth. I mean he was a good guy but he whined a lot about the hand he was dealt. And after he pushes away his light (Kirby) does he see love can really happen to him. He constantly was hot and cold when he couldn’t make up his mind about Kirby. And Kirby was great. She was not all that confident, prefers horses over fancy cars, enjoys a good old fashioned burger, and cares about everyone. She really is your girl next door type and a perfect match for Seth. I even liked Brittany and Miss Bea. Although this was light on romance the few scenes between Seth and Kirby were so full of heat that made you wish you had a cowboy of your own.

I truly hope there will be more in this series!Great job Miss Manning!

I was gifted a copy of this novel from the JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review.
