Review: Terran (Breeder #2) by Cara Bristol

After fleeing loneliness and heartache on Terra, Tara Diehl has adjusted to male-dominated Parseon better than most vendors--until she is kidnapped by Alpha Marlix, one of the five rulers of the planet. At first she’s terrified of her tall, muscled abductor, especially when he doesn’t hesitate to quell her struggle for freedom with a little corporal discipline. After all her methods and ploys to escape fail, she decides to seduce her way to freedom.

But out of seduction and subterfuge grow a true intimacy that cause Marlix and Tara to take action that drives Parseon to the brink of civil war, and threatens not only their relationship, but also their lives.

Terran, the second book in the Breeder sci-fi series, is a “capture” romance involving a domineering but hunky alien, a female with a bad dye job and an even worse attitude, explicit sex, anal sex, and spanking.

Terran is a great addition to the Breeder series. It’s filled with action, adventure as well as steamy sex and romance. It’s not often I get to lose myself in a sci-fi romance. My normal reading is usually in the PNR genre To come across a book that can pull me away and keep me riveted from cover to cover without having a claw or fang in sight, has to be worth the read. This second entry in the Breeder series certainly is. And after finishing this book, I now find I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

Tara from Terra. Yes, I find that humorous. I like her character. Her back-story is sad but yet, she’s still tough and sassy. I wasn’t too thrilled with Marlix in the beginning. The stick up his butt attitude was a bit annoying until you discover his and his beta, Urazi, secret. Lips zipped – I’m not telling. As the story progresses I find myself finally warming up to Marlix. The story is well written and filled with exciting action in and out of the bedroom. The secondary characters were very likeable, except for Qalin. He is one scary dude. What happens to him will probably be further into the series but for now – YIKES!

I do have one little bone to pick with this storyline. I like how Marlix was changing his way for the good but Tara, she seems to be going backwards. I have a hard time accepting that a woman who leaves her old life and world behind to venture to a new world can give up her freedom so easily. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Having read the previous book in the Breeder series I sensed there were serious changed for this misogynistic-type society. In case you missed it, here’s the breakdown. There are Alphas who have betas. Both are male with the Alpha being in charge and the beta basically acts as the second in command. Their duties include all aspects of taking care of their Alpha…including being their sexual bottom. Women are property to be used only be the Alpha for breeding. Betas aren’t allowed to breed but they can have sex with women. All sex outside of breeding is anal. Period. However, it seems there’s a change in the winds. There’s a small society living on the outskirts where men are now fraternizing and having sex, and coupling up with women. *GASP!* Oh yes things are changing and getting very interesting.
