Review: The Baby (The Bride #4) by S. Doyle

Jake and I are married now. For real this time. Everything that happened - my dad dying, our fake marriage to keep me out of foster care, the divorce, all of that is finally behind us.

This is our happily ever after.

We both decided we’re ready for a baby. It's just that... I was pregnant once before, and it didn't end well. It crushed both of us. So much that I almost lost Jake forever. Now I'm riddled with all of this fear and doubt.

I did something crazy. Jake doesn't know about it so I'll have to tell him. And he'll have to forgive me. Because we both want this family so much.

I can’t put my finger on what I love about this series but I do love it. Jake and Ellie are much younger than me so I can’t identify much with their lives and yet I was totally invested in watching these youngsters make their way into adulthood and a maturing, evolving relationship. The characters are so real and likable and their interactions so intriguing. Doyle does an excellent job of creating a tough, emotionally closed off cowboy (just like the men I knew my whole life growing up in Wyoming) and finding numerous ways to soften his harsh exterior and make him a lovable, caring partner to earnest and forthright Ellie.  I struggled a little with the progression of their relationship in this book and found I liked it just a bit less than the others.  I wanted to scream at Jake and Ellie at times.  I cried several times and I laughed often. I couldn’t wait for these two to get romantic and to find their happily ever after and though it took a long time and several books, I was not disappointed.
