Review: The Billionaire’s Christmas Bargain (Billionaires in Bondage #3) by Joely Sue Burkhart

The Recluse: Ever since his parents died in a holiday car accident, Harvey Caine has shut himself away with his lingering injuries and his guilt, hating Christmas more with each passing year. Clinging to the one obsession that keeps him alive—wrest control of Caine Enterprises from his aunt.

When his longtime friend mentions a niece who needs a job and a roof over her head for a few days, Harvey agrees, figuring his mansion is large enough to ignore her.

The Maid: Professional BDSM Mistress Kelsey Marley doesn’t do “ignored”. She’s been hired to do what she does best—push the billionaire’s buttons until his defenses crack. The paycheck will buy her dream of owning her own bar.

The Figgy Pudding Thickens: As Kelsey administers the discipline Harvey needs to release his pain, she realizes too late they’re getting too close, too fast. If he finds out she’s been bought and paid for, this holiday might go down in his ledger as a big fat loss for them both.

Warning: Contains a wounded hero who never backs down from a challenge, and a badass mistress who doesn’t flinch from his scars, laughs in the face of his temper tantrums, and has no problem administering a much-needed spanking.

Harvey is in a miserable place. He’s the only survivor in a car crash that claimed the lives of his parents. Severely burned, he turns into a recluse feeling so much guilt after they lost their lives coming to pick him up from a drunken Christmas party. Since then he has had very little contact with the outside world. His saving grace is Gordon Maxwell, servant to his parents and has taken care of Harvey his whole life. Maxwell is more than just a servant though, he is a family friend. He cares for Harvey and wants him to gain control of his life again. After everything he tried has failed, he decides to hire a Mistress to see if she could help Harvey.

Kelsey Marley poses as Maxwell’s niece needing a few days shelter and a short job for the holidays. Unbeknownst to Harvey, she’s the Dominatrix Maxwell hired. She believes she can help Harvey deal with his pain and guilt. Little by little he opens up to Kelsey.

I felt so many things for Harvey. The disaster his life became after the crash was so sad. He had so many cards against him and he constantly wars with himself. He believes he’s been wronged by everyone including his Aunt who
“stole” his company when he was in the hospital. That fuels his anger and he spends much of his time and energy plotting revenger on her.

It is apparent Maxwell loves Harvey and really just wants to help him. He’s stuck by Harvey through it all and was the only person Harvey kept around. Even after he treated him so poorly, Maxwell never entertained the thought of leaving Harvey. He had his own demons to deal with too. I really enjoyed him.

Kelsey and Harvey seem to be right for each other. They had a fair amount of chemistry. I really loved her and felt she had the right amount of intrigue and pressure to get Harvey to finally open up. Coming from a childhood of nothing, she never uses Harvey’s rich boy behavior against him. She’s a tough cookie but handles Harvey with sincerity and compassion. The beauty/beast dynamic works so well. She was the ray of sunshine Harvey finds he needs.

I really adored this story! It’s listed as book three in the Billionaires in Bondage series but it can easily be read as a standalone. There are a couple of appearances of previous series characters, so I recommend reading all of them! Joely Sue Burkhart writes such vivid scenes, it feels like you are a voyeur! The sexy talk is hot and the bit of kink works. I love her writing style and she is fast becoming a one-click author for me! I definitely look forward to other books in this series and hope we get a glimpse of Kelsey and Harvey down the road!
