Review: The Devlin Witch (The Devlin Legacy #4) by Bernadette Walsh

The Devlin magic can bring your heart's desire...but at what cost?

Anne Marie Devlin has given up on finding true love. She'd rather just hide out in her opulent apartment on the Upper East Side. Then her grandmother is violently killed. Forced to leave her safe world, Anne Marie must survive a hot, persistent cop, her cousin Rita's hysterics and her grandmother's confused ghost.

Rita has everything: a loving husband, a beautiful house, exotic beauty, and she's a partner at her law firm. Having a baby would make her life complete, but it's not to be. Or is it? When she and Anne Marie find the ancestral Book of Magic, with powers beyond their imagining, all things become possible.

But someone else in the family wants the Book of Magic too, and they'll do anything to get it. Even kill. Can Anne Marie and Rita win the struggle for their legacy, becoming the next Devlin witch? There can be only one, and should they fail, not just their lives are at stake-their souls will be lost for eternity.

This enchanting story is a wonderfully written paranormal romance that follows the lives of Anne Marie and her cousin Rita while they fight to continue their family legacy.  It begins with Anne Marie content with her single life, living day to day.  But when her grandmother is brutally murdered, her life is turned upside down and she’s thrown into a chaotic situation that involves her hysterical cousin, Rita, the ghost of her grandmother, and an enticingly sexy cop that has the potential to be her happily ever after.

From the very beginning, this book reads like a mystery, every page turn becoming more and more exciting as these two scrappy women fight for their ancestral Book of Magic and the powers that it welds.  The chemistry between the two of them is great, as they play off of one another perfectly.  Their relationship resembles that of sisters rather than cousins, and it works very well for the plot.

There is plenty of magic, adventure and romance in this book, and although it’s part of a series, I felt as though it worked very well as a stand-alone.  If witches and magic is your potion in the paranormal romance genre, this book will be a welcome addition to your collection.
