Review: The Earl Takes All (The Hellions of Havisham #2) by Lorraine Heath

One summer night, Edward Alcott gives in to temptation and kisses Lady Julia Kenney in a dark garden. However, the passion she stirs within him is best left in the shadows as she weds his twin, the Earl of Greyling. But when tragedy strikes, to honor the vow he makes to his dying brother, Edward must pretend to be Greyling until the countess delivers her babe.

After her husband returns from a two-month sojourn, Julia finds him changed. Bolder, more daring, and more wicked—even if he does limit their encounters to kisses. With each passing day, she falls more deeply in love.

For Edward the embers of desire sparked on that long-ago night are quickly rekindled. He yearns to be her husband in truth. But if she discovers his ruse, she will despise him—and English law prevents him from marrying his brother’s widow. Yet he must dare to risk everything and reveal his secrets if he is to truly take all.

After Lord Greyling, Albert, dies in Africa, he begs his twin brother, Edward, to care for Julia. Julia is pregnant for the fourth time, suffering miscarriages with the first three. Albert fears that the grief of losing him would cause another miscarriage.

Edward is opposite of Albert. It is a huge undertaking for him to assume Albert’s place. It makes it worse knowing that the child Albert wanted to protect is a potential heir to the Earldom. But every day he is in Julia’s presence is harder and harder. He’s secretly adored her from afar. He his thoroughly in love with her. Julia knew something was different about Albert once he returned. He’s always kept he affections to kissing, but holy moly they were never this hot! What will happen when the baby is born? Does Edward tell her who he really is? That he loves her?

This book was a bit muddled in the beginning. It straightened out and the story was a topsy-turvy ride. Even though Edward is a total rake, he changed once in Julia’s life. I came to like him and how he dared to dream of having his love for Julia truly be his own. I knew what was eventually going to happen and I dreaded it. It had to be done and Lorraine Heath gave us a very satisfying ending.
