The Calling changed Rayna Ford’s life forever, now in The Gathering, she will find out what she’s truly become.
Rayna Ford didn’t believe in monsters, until she became one herself. As a newly turned werewolf awaiting her first shift, Rayna puts all her trust in Garrett Kincaid, the man who accidentally infected her and changed her life forever. But when old enemies resurface and take her from the one man who vowed to protect her, Rayna must face her fears alone.
The Collective, the Breed leaders of all the preternatural species, haven’t abandoned the dream of announcing their presence to the world and they still want Rayna to be the one who integrate them into human society. Her only chance at survival is to reveal the secret the breed leaders want her to show the world, but in doing so, she may alienate the very creatures she wants to protect and endanger her own life in the process.
This story is the conclusion to Garrett and Rayna’s story but it leaves you ready for the next book in the series. In this story Rayna is now a “monster” and she has to come to terms with it. Garrett is there with her until she is taken against her will by the Collective. While being held captive we meet several interesting characters. My favorite is Sabriel. We were introduced to him briefly in the first book. He is a vampire that has an unexplained connection with Rayna. We also meet his sister Lydia in the most unlikely of places in this story.
The author was able to keep the pace going in the second installment. This book starts out where the other one left off. In this story we are introduced to some new people and creatures while we follow Rayna and her wolf. One of the creatures that I was surprised to see was included was demons. There was a lot of action and fighting. I think the only thing I didn’t like as much was it seemed that they moved Rayna an awful lot when she was kidnapped.
The characters were expanded on and some of the secondary characters that I had wondered about their back stories were cleared up more in this one. Rayna herself I thought was very well written. She was scared but courageous when she needed to be and knew when to hold her tongue and when to speak up. She has guts and isn’t afraid to stand up for herself when it is needed. Garrett is very determined to protect his mate and acts just like a mated Alpha werewolf.
I liked how the author ended this story. It looks like the next one will be Lydia and Bryce’s book and I can’t wait to continue this series. I for one am really looking forward to reading Sabriel’s book.
