Review: The Highlander’s Accidental Marriage (Marriage Mart Mayhem #6) by Callie Hutton

Scotland, 1817

The Duke of Manchester's sister, Lady Sarah Lacey, always abides by the rules of etiquette. Fate, however, has no such confines. On a journey to the Scottish Highlands, Lady Sarah is set upon by misfortune–leaving her without carriage or chaperone, and left to the mercy of a kind and handsome gentleman. Whom (in order to secure a room at an inn) she announces is her husband.

When she proclaims they’re married in public, Professor Braeden McKinnon can't bring himself to correct the lovely Lady Sarah. After all, her reputation would be ruined. Nor can he tell her that her proclamation is not only legally binding in Scotland, but sharing a room is considered to be an act of consummation...

Now they are bound together until death do they part–even if Sarah has no intention of becoming any man's wife.

A wonderful, romantic adventure set in the Highlands! Lady Sarah is travelling to the Scottish Highlands to visit her twin sister, Sybil, who hopefully will give birth to her baby while she is there. Unfortunately, Sarah has an awful trip. In an accident with her carriage, the only survivors are Sarah and her maid. Now what?? Rescue comes in the form of Professor Braeden McKinnon.

Professor Braeden McKinnon is travelling north to Scotland to go back home, and agrees to help Sarah and her maid get there as well. As they are travelling, Sarah’s maid falls ill, leaving only Sarah and Braedon to continue northward. Staying at an inn one night, Sarah innocently tells the inn keeper they are married. Unfortunately, Sarah was unaware of Scottish marriage law that views them wed after an announcement heard by at least two people, and considered consummated after spending the night in the same room. Braeden doesn’t want to tarnish Sarah’s reputation so he goes along with it.

But Sarah doesn’t want to be married and Braeden doesn’t want a wife.

Things keep going from bad to worse! What happens after you accidentally marry someone?? Turns out the problems on this journey are far from over.

As Sarah and Braeden start to navigate their new status, they are thrown into some awkward situations. They start to look at each other with a fondness like never before. Which turns into some oh so steamy situations! Even though I knew where this romance was headed, I wanted to take the journey with these characters, and see how they get there! Both are so stubborn-almost to a fault, plus a tad selfish. They seem bent on getting what they want, neither bending to compromise, and see what they could accomplish together. Sarah was even annoying at times. I get she’s a strong woman, but I just had to roll my eyes at her sometimes too. I wanted her to get over herself and yell “Give this guy a chance!”. I was rooting for their romance to take root and grow!

The Highlander’s Accidental Marriage is book six in Callie Hutton’s Marriage Mart Mayhem series. Did I enjoy it? Yes! Would I recommend it? Most definitely! The romance was well written and was a fast-paced, engaging historical romance novel!
