Review: The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo (Love at Stake #14) by Kerrelyn Sparks

He's Out of Control

Dougal Kincaid has something to prove. After being injured in a battle with the Malcontents, he's ready for active duty protecting unsuspecting mortals from these villainous vampires who want to rule the world. But first he has to get control of himself . . . because just the sight of a certain lovely doctor has his injured hand doing some peculiar things, not to mention the sizzling sensation that burns along his dragon tattoo.

Vampires? Vampires?! As a scientist, Leah is having trouble believing that these immortal creatures exist. But there they are, standing in front of her, asking for help in solving a genetic puzzle that can save mankind. There's even one in a sexy kilt! Just one look into Dougal's gorgeous green eyes sets her pulse racing. But can she trust him—and the overwhelming desire that refuses to be ignored?

Don’t you just love a great paranormal romance! I know I do and The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo is the perfect example of what one is. When I first sat down to read this book I really did not know what I had in store for me. Frankly, I walked into this series not having read any of the previous titles nor knowing any of the characters. By the time I finished, I knew this was a series I needed to read. It has all the elements to satisfy my PNR addiction. You got vamps and shifters, villainous vampires who want to rule the world, action and adventure with a little bit of mystery thrown in, and epic romance. I’m swooning over the last piece. To be honest I once I started reading I just couldn’t put this book down and as this is not a short novella (Page count is a hefty 384!) I was up until the wee hours of the morning.

I simply adore Dougal and it’s not just how sexy he is in a kilt. OK…maybe it is the kilt. Oh how I love Leah. She’s the perfect nerdy heroine. You put the two of them together and not only does the air sizzle with the sexual heat but you can tell their gentle souls were destined for each other. Author Kerrelyn Sparks easily has created some of the best major and secondary characters I have come across. I enjoyed them so much I wanted to go back and read their stories. Although it may take me a while, seeing as this is book #14 in the Love at Stake series but they are definitely worth taking the time for. I just wished I had the time to read them all before I reviewed this book.

As I said before, this is the first book in the series that I have read. Despite never having read any of the previous titles, I found this book worked very well as a stand-alone title. Although, if The Vampire With the Dragon Tattoo is any indication on how good of a series Love at Stake is, not only do I recommended reading this book but I also suggest reading the entire series!
