Review: They Walk Among Us by T.A. Chase

Zach agrees to help Raven, and finds himself drawn into a world he never knew existed.

Zach Harliegh was a baby when the aliens arrived. He doesn’t remember much about those months, except his parents fighting and his dad leaving. His father died, destroying the aliens, and his mother when Zach graduated from medical school. He’s alone in the world, working hard to get his career going leaves no time for any kind of relationship.

One night, a beautiful man is brought into the ER. Raven Sanderson has been severely beaten, and seems unsocialized. Raven and Zach hit it off when Zach takes over his care. Raven can’t speak, but writes notes to Zach, letting him know the man is in the city to find his sister.

Zach agrees to help Raven, and finds himself drawn into a world he never knew existed. A world full of alien creatures that read minds, and heal with a simple touch. He realizes there is more to the world around him, and the aliens he thought were destroyed weren’t. Their off-spring walk among us.

300 Review

At some point an alien race referred to as Opalites came to Earth. They were met with open hostility and the human Earth inhabitants didn’t get to know why these beings from the planet Opal were there. They killed them, or so they thought. Now possibly twenty some odd years into the future their children are being hunted and made into experimental lab rats by the government.

Dr. Zach Harliegh is very familiar with what happened to the alien visitors from his childhood. His father is the hero that has been memorialized as the assassin that ended the lives of the leaders. Now an adult himself Zach is the world renowned specialist on all things Opalite. This is where some of my confusion came along. I never figured out what there was to study. I was under the impression there were only a few aliens and that the few there were they were eliminated. The other confusion was Raven.

As one of the hidden Opalite children Raven has spent his entire life in hiding with his sister. He has to come out of hiding when his sister goes missing. He hasn’t been in the city very long when the government agents that supposedly want to capture all Opalites beats Raven to the point that he is hospitalized. I never figured out why the agents didn’t want to capture Raven or why his sister left home only to be captured herself. He however meets Zach and they become lovers and go on their rescue mission.

There are just some instances where I need more background information. The alien race is a big unknown here because they have lived their entire lives in secrecy. The things about Raven that are revealed as the  rescue mission goes on makes it a bit difficult to believe that their parents were annihilated so quickly and easily in the manner that has been known in this worlds history. Once Raven reaches his “maturity” he becomes an absolute badass. He also goes through this rather intense transformation that just didn’t match up to what is known of the Opalite history.
