Review: Tryst (Sexual Education #2) by S.L. Jennings

From the author of Taint, comes this steamy novel of a happily married couple who decides to take a walk on the wild side in order to add spice to their sex life—but end up in a situation that neither could have ever bargained for.

Heidi DuCane is a tough-as-nails publicist with a passion for success and her husband Tucker. While they’re polar opposites, what they do have in common is a fierce love and commitment to each other. But their relationship—in and out of the bedroom—will be put to the ultimate test.

Rock superstar Ransom Reed is every woman’s fantasy, including Heidi’s. When she meets Ransom, she shares a wild night with him where Heidi gets to play—and Tucker watches, and enjoys, the pleasure Ransom gives Heidi. Though Tucker was a willing participant, Heidi still can’t help reeling with guilt. There’s no doubt that she loves her husband. While Tucker is the perfect lover—generous, attentive and gentle—she needs much more. She needs the mind-blowing ecstasy Ransom offers.

Tucker isn’t blind to the fact that Heidi has unconventional needs which he can’t satisfy. He loves his wife and will do anything to please her The night he watched her and Ransom was so scorching hot that Tucker can’t stop thinking about it. He decides he wants to join Ransom in pleasing Heidi. But as Tucker and Heidi soon realize, it’s not just the sex that is enticing. Heidi felt something within her awaken, and she felt so deliciously sated and loved by both men. Tucker felt it too, and he finds it impossible not to want that feeling again.

Ransom and Tucker satisfy a need within Heidi. And now that she’s had them, she can never go back to the way things were before.

Breaking a Legend

Let me start by saying, I have not read Taint. I have it because the cover was just so freaking awesome and everybody said it was a must read. I know nothing about any of these in characters in Tryst or whether they were in the previous book. Frankly, I opted to read Tryst without having read the blurb because of Taint and my friends opinion on that title alone. Was that a good idea? Not sure but I can tell you this: HOLY JAW ON FLOOR, BATMAN! How! What?! How! My next book had better rock because I have no idea how I am going to recover from reading Tryst! My brain is still spinning and it’s been a full day since I finished.

The characters. Heidi, Tucker, Ransom. Let’s start with Heidi. I had a love/hate relationship with her. Here this woman seems to have the perfect life: Perfect job, husband, everything. And yet here she is fantasizing about another man. Okay it’s really more of a ‘who I would do with no consequences’ fantasy but still. She has the perfect life…or so it would seem. Tucker, now he I found annoying. Not because he was a annoying character but because, nothing every seemed to ruffle his feathers. Ever. Generous, attentive and gentle to a fault he is the perfect husband. He’s also a shrink. Wrap your thoughts around that for a moment…. Lastly, there is Ransom. Again a love/hate relationship. I found him exciting, sexy, intoxicating and…needy. He’s a rock-star yet I didn’t find him to be that JLO demanding. It was more of a broken soul, but even they get tiring.

The story. Happily married couple decides to take a walk on the wild side and gets more than they bargained for. No shocker there. Heidi and Tucker are happily married and very much in love but things have gotten a little too routine so they decide to spice up their sex life a bit…by bringing one of Heidi’s fantasies to life. The one where she get to have sex with the start of her who I would do with no consequences fantasy, Ransom, while Tucker watches. And of course it is followed up by next day regrets…by Heidi. It’s not that she cheated on her husband, oh no. She had his full blessings. Only, it awakens desires in her that her perfect husband in her perfect marriage just can’t fill.

My thoughts and feelings. I literally stayed up all night reading Tryst because I could not put this train wreck of a story down. There were times I wanted to take everybody and smack them upside the head to ask them WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!! No a take it back, not Ransom, at least not a first. Heidi and Tucker definitely. The story is told completely from her 1st person POV so you get to experience all her roller coaster inner turmoil and self-loathing. How she loves her husband and what she feels for Ransom. It’s all very tumultuous and unpredictable blowing away everything I expected to happen. Except for the sex. Yeah that was Seriously. Hot. Stuff. However, I feel the need to mention a few things on that subject. If you have triggers regarding rape or multiple sex partners, this is not the book for you. For those two reasons alone I am tagging this book 5-Flames. So if either of those things bother you, put it down now and walk away. But, it you are willing to experience the good, bad and ugly, lock yourself in a room and be prepared to be blown away.

Tryst is my very first book by author S.L. Jennings and let me tell you, it was well worth the read. Rarely do I find a book that grabs me, sucks me in and leaves me in shock. How I felt when I first started reading and how I feel now is a completely reversal. I’m almost glad I didn’t read Taint first because now I have something to read from this incredibly author. Will there be a 3rd book, I have no clue but I have every possible part on my body crossed hoping there will be!

“I dare you…to let me touch your wife.”
An audible gasp escapes my kiss-swollen lips and turn to Tucker, awaiting his wrath. He returns Ransom’s intent stare, his expression unreadable. Yet, the younger man doesn’t back down, cocking a challenging brow at Tuck’s silence. He remains unmovable, a master at the art of restraint from his years as a shrink. No doubt he’s had to answer some odd questions, but never any involving his wife.
“I don’t let Heidi do anything. She has her own mind…her own body.”
“So maybe I should be asking her.” A sinister smile on his lips, Ransom angles his focus on me. “Heidi, would you let me touch you?”
My first reaction is to say no—hell no. But Tucker quickly grasps my knee, capturing my attention.
“This is what you want,” he whispers. “He…is what you want. And I can accept that. This is your fantasy, baby. Let me help you make it come true.”
I search his face, waiting for him to break into laughter, but he’s completely serious. My husband is telling me to let another man put his hands on me—his wife. This isn’t right. This isn’t what married people are supposed to do. But even as that rational part of my brain lists all the reasons why I shouldn’t allow this to go any further, my body is already tingling with anticipation. My face and chest are flush. My nipples harden in exhilaration. And my mouth waters with the prospect of tasting Ransom’s skin.
Oh, God. I do want this. And now the decision is mine and mine alone.

“So?” Ransom asks, awaiting our fate.
Say no.
Say no.
Grab Tucker’s hand and get the fuck out of here. Go home and make love to him. Let that kind, good, gentle man be enough.
Once again, Ransom Reed steals the truth from my lips, forcing me to abandon all decency and sanity. Making me take the sanctity of my marriage and soil it with my own slick arousal.
In one single breath, I shatter ten years of devotion, trust and love. And although I know what I’m destroying by lighting this fire, I can’t do much more than stand back and watch it all go up in flames.
