Review: Untamed (Thoughtless #4) by S.C. Stephens

#1 New York Times bestselling author S.C. Stephens brings us the next book in her Thoughtless series!

Griffin Hancock is tired of being stuck behind Kellan Kyle's spotlight. He's the best, the main event, and everyone should know it. He has Anna, and his beautiful daughter Gibson, to hell with the rest of them. A new venture presents itself, and Griffin decides this is his chance. When he tells the band about his new side gig, they tell him it's a terrible idea, so Griffin breaks ties with the band. Anna tries to be supportive of Griffin, but soon she's done, too. Realizing all he's lost, Griffin looks to find a way back to the life he threw away... but can he convince Anna that he's a changed man?

When I found out a new Thoughtless book was coming out I was over the moon excited. A new book to one of my favorite series by one of my always 1 click authors? Heck ya I am on-board with that. A story about one of the D-Bags? Gimme gimme gimme! And did you see that cover?! I need to read it now! I got a advance readers copy of Untamed, loaded it up on my Kindle and started to read.

I’m not going to lie and say I loved this book from the very beginning. Far from it, I struggled…A LOT! Why you may ask? Because of Griffin. Yes the main character. His ego is something off the charts and frankly, his awesomeness, swelled head, self-centered, ‘I’m the center of the world and everybody needs to revolve around me’ was too much to swallow. He wasn’t even ‘I love to hate him so I need to read about him’ character. It was more of a ‘why am I torturing myself with this d-bag’ kind of read.

I was hoping things would get better. I mean come on; all my favorite characters from the Thoughtless series (Matt, Kellan, Evan, Denny just to name a few) were present. We even got a few new ones with Griffin’s family that I enjoyed. Some of the best parts of the story were the ones that involved other characters. However, this book was told completely in first person POV from Griffin. His inner monologues, his me-me-me attitude, his lack of filter and getting it just was too much. There was no getting away from him. I know most people will find some of his antics humorous, but for me, it was just painful to read. However, I did sign up to review Untamed and I was determined to finish, so I started skimming. At this point, I was firmly thinking this is sitting at a 2-Star review.

I’m not going to go into details of the stuff he pulled and if he ever got himself out of trouble because I don’t do spoilers…even if I think the book was not worth reading. That’s for you to read and decide if this book is for you. I will say this, it wasn’t 100% awful. It wasn’t until I hit 70% that I finally took interest in this train wreck called Griffin. But by then he had screwed up his life and everyone around him I honestly couldn’t see him redeeming himself. What was worse, all his self-centered shenanigans and lies had me not caring if he did. Nevertheless, for the other characters in this book I did care and I wanted to see how things turned out for them. So I finished, and in my personal opinion, the last few chapters in the book were the best. There’s even a sweet epilogue at the end that ties up this series very nicely with a big red bow. These last chapters are the only reason I bumped my review up a notch.

I love S.C. Stephens books. Her characters and her stories are amazing and I would recommend all her books to everybody. However, I think I finally have come across a title of hers I would not recommend. Most fans of her Thoughtless series will probably enjoy Untamed. A small minority won’t and unfortunately, I am one of them. The only two words I can come up with on my experience with Untamed are crushing disappointment.
