Title: Through the Veil
58 years ago a gorge opened up from Mobile, AL to Quebec City, Canada to split the United States into the Western States (WS) and the Eastern States (ES).
40 years later a fog rolled in on the WS that they called the Veil. Within twelve hours it formed an impenetrable wall between the two sides.
It’s been 18 years since anyone has known what’s happening on the other side of the Veil.
Now, Lori, an Other, in a desperate attempt at escape from the ES’s torture and experimentation, has crossed the
Veil and found a world beyond belief.
Marcus is a Warrior, but when Lori collapses at his feet wounded and exhausted, he knows he has to protect her. But seeing that she’s the first person he’s seen in 18 years without wings, he’s worried about what her appearance means for his people and the world they’ve created since the Veil fell.
Two new societies: one built on a respect for the natural order of nature and the world, the other built on mistrust and corruption. Can they learn to co-exist once again?

I really enjoyed this book. PNR is my favorite genre and this was no exception. I will definitely be reading this series and adding another author for me to follow.
I really liked the world building in this story. Imagine a US split between the Eastern States (ES) and the Western States (WS). After a big gorge shows up out of nowhere then years later a mysterious mist further divides the US that is impenetrable. Further into the story we find out that everything west of the Mississippi is now ocean. Wow I was already really intrigued at this point and I was not even halfway through the book. The mysterious happenings after the mist descended were a big part of this story from the people to the events.
I loved the tension and energy between Lori and Marcus from the beginning. I also really liked how the author made the distinction with how different life was on both sides of the veil. There was a couple of times that I laughed out loud or at least was grinning like an idiot at my book with the characters. The author gave them a personality and it really showed in the writing.
All in all this is a really great story and series to check out. If I could I would give it more than 5 stars.
