Wake Me Up Inside is one of those books that has me struggling. See on one hand I loved it. The story starts out as Zev is arguing with his family, well more like a strong discussion of him needed to settle down with a female mate. Zev is gay, is adamant to his family he is gay and he won’t settle down until he finds his true mate but he’ll compromise and let them set him up on blind dates (so to speak) until his true mate shows up. Of course, he KNOWS who his true mate is. Jonah. And then the backstory of his first meeting with Jonah, how they grew up together right on up until present time begins.

So why am I struggling? It has everything I want in a story. Great characters, slow build-up, steamy sex, HEA and big bonus points for being a PNR. My problem is how impatient the backstory had me feeling. It kind of dragged on and I just wanted it to cut to the chase. Zev took so long to get things going. I mean I understand why but somehow I couldn’t help but think if he just told Jonah sooner, their suffering could have been handled a bit better. Now as for the ending, it’s the opposite with being a bit rushed and ending so quickly. I would have like to have seen some of that dragging on I was experiencing throughout the book.

Now before you dismiss this book based on my opinion let me just say, Wake Me Up Inside really was a sweet story and I did enjoy it. So much so that I will be continuing on with the series. I just need to find the right tempo of the book so I can settle in and relax. Hopefully, I’ll find it in the next book.
