Review: Weathering the Storm by Kait Gamble

When the storm hits, sometimes the only thing you can do is hang on.

Maia Reynolds is a successful travel writer for one major reason—her entire life is focused on work. Only one man has ever managed to get past her barriers and he’s the reason why she’s closed herself off from everyone else—and she’s just thrown champagne in his face.

Heir to the Girard Group, Alexandre is used to women throwing themselves at him, not drinks. He’s intrigued by the beautiful and maddening Maia, but the tale she tells him about their supposed past can’t be true. Can it?

The head trauma he’d suffered years before leaves a blank space in his memory that Maia seems to be able to fill, but he knows there’s she’s hiding something. Until they clear up the past, they won’t be able to build the future that’s beginning to form in his mind.

But, will she ever trust him enough to truly open up again?

Maia is a travel writer who only focuses on work.  She’s constantly on the move so no one gets close.  Her plan is by design.  She was hurt once long ago and she will never have that happen again.  Things are going great until she is visiting a new hotel and runs into Alex-the man who caused her so much hurt.  She’s livid and throws her champagne at him then bolts.

Alex is the heir to a hotel management group.  He’s at his newest renovated gem when a travel writer inexplicitly throws her champagne in his face!  He runs after her to find out what that was about.  When she tells him of their past, he’s intrigued.  She seems genuine but he’s not sure he believes her.

Alex was in an accident which left a chunk of his past memories gone.   Maia seems to have some insight to that time that he didn’t even know he was missing.  He knows she’s got some secrets.  He wants to find out about his past so he embarks on a fact finding mission with Maia.  He’s not prepared for the way she makes him feel.

When Alex takes Maia to one of his newest hotel renovations,  fate has a way of meddling as they are caught in a storm and unable to leave. Can Maia help Alex with his past knowing it opens a wound she’s tried to hard to close?

What a super read!  I loved the interwoven story.  It’s like a second chance love story, only one half has no recollection of the other.  Maia is understandably reluctant to open her heart knowing how badly she was previously hurt. I liked how Alex was driven to regain his memories by any means possible, but hated how he handled some of it. You could feel their chemistry and I rooted for them to find their way.  At times both acted in a way that made me shake my head, but it also showed that they were human and dealing in the best way they knew how.

Weathering the Storm was a well-rounded , satisfying story that offered a bit of everything! I am a fan of Kait Gamble’s books and this one didn’t disappoint!  She’s fast becoming a one-click author for me! Give her a try!
