Review: Wicked Magic by Madeline Pryce

Publisher’s Note: This book was previously published elsewhere as Familiar Magic. It has been substantially expanded for EC.

Samantha has almost everything she needs to inherit her magic. Everything but Trent, the sexy shapeshifter and local sheriff she’s lusted after her entire life. She’s known for years Trent is destined to be her familiar, but the last time she approached him he turned her down flat.

Trent isn’t about to fork over his bachelorhood to a witch, especially one he knows is too good for him. Turning her down once was easy—she’d been too young and innocent—but Trent never anticipated she’d grow into such an obstinate, sexy, entirely-too-tempting woman. When she serves herself up, deliciously naked, walking away suddenly becomes difficult.

Out of time, Sam focuses on enticing Trent into her bed and into her life. But Sam’s toying with a predator, and once Trent decides he wants her, beneath him and beside him, he’ll pour every ounce of his stubborn pride into protecting what’s his.

Thrilling action and spine tingling suspense abound in this paranormal romance. In order to inherit her magic, Samantha needs to love her virginity on Samhain to her familiar who just happens to be sexy sheriff, Trent, but the last time she approached him he turned her down flat. Now with time running out there’s a dangerous pack of wolves getting in her way.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with lots of action, suspense, drama and romance.  The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that paint vivid images and capture the imagination and the well orchestrated action scenes adds lots of excitement to the story.  The characters are strong, compelling, easily grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.  Warning, the dangerous wolves are a pretty violent bunch.

The readers can feel the heat between Sam and Trent leaping from the pages and the sex scenes reach out and scorch the reader with fiery passion.  Trent turned her down once, but she knows she has to try one more time because he is the only one for her with that in mind, Sam captures the heart with her plight and Trent is a sexy alpha Jaguar that is under the mistaken assumption that is up to him.

When the danger to the people of the town and to Sam escalates, things get dicey and the reader’s emotions are catapulted through the wringer. The author created a fantastic story with some refreshingly different elements and captivating characters that I thoroughly enjoyed and although this is a stand-alone story, the author has created an intriguing world and characters that could inspire some more stories if she is so inclined.  Personally, I would like to know ‘Miah’s story.
