Review: Tempting His Mate (Crescent Moon #3) by Savannah Stuart

She ran from him once…

Wild one night stands are not Ella Hayes’s style, but with her confidence at rock bottom after a devastating betrayal and her painful departure from her jaguar pride, who could blame her for falling into bed with a sexy wolf? She never thought she’d see him again. And never in her craziest dreams did she expect to come face-to-face with him on her first day with the Kincaid wolf pack. Sleeping with Asher had been one of the most intense experiences of her life—but now she wonders if they could have more.

He’s not letting her go again…

Tired of life as a lone wolf, shifter Asher has joined his cousin’s pack. The last person he expected to see was the sexy woman who ran out on him in the middle of the most incredible night of his life. The Ella he meets now is nothing like the wild, sensual woman he let his guard down with, but he likes both sides of the complicated female. But now somebody—or something—sinister is targeting Ella, and Asher moves quickly to get her under his roof and under his protection. Keeping the sexy female safe and proving they belong together are two missions he doesn’t plan to fail. Because this time, he’s playing for keeps.

This is the third book in the Crescent Moon series and it can be read as a stand alone.  The characters from the previous books do appear in this one but there isn’t a continuing plot.

Ella is feeling restless after her sister mates with her ex boyfriend so she decides to go live with her cousin.  It’s a big change for her since she is a jaguar shifter and her cousin mated a wolf but she is looking for a fresh start.  When she gets to town she goes to a shifter bar and meets Asher, a sexy wolf shifter that makes her want to break out of her strict somewhat boring life.  So she does something she’s never done before and that is have a one night stand with him.  Little does she know that he is a new member of the wolf pack she is joining and he has no intention of letting her walk away from what they started.

We see Ella and Asher meet in the beginning of the book but it skips over their one night stand.  We get flashbacks to it from both characters but we don’t see it first hand.  Ella has a lot of insecurities built up from how she left her pride and she thinks that Asher would only want her for a no strings attached relationship since she slept with him the night she met him.  What I liked though was that Asher never felt that way.  He was a strong, confident alpha male but he didn’t sleep with everything that moved.  In fact, he even talks about how he hasn’t slept around a lot which is a nice change since a lot of males I read about are man whores.  They take time when they meet again to get to know each other and it forces Ella to re-evaluate Asher and helps him to get to know her better.

This was a good quick read, around eighty pages, but I enjoyed the characters and the world.  There isn’t too much explained about the shifters themselves, the society, laws, their mortality.  It is stated that Asher is over a century old  but looks young so I have to assume that they live longer than an average person.  We also get the appearance of vampires but we learn next to nothing about them. A little more world building would have been nice but it didn’t detract from the story as a whole. There is a little mystery thrown in as well but it basically pushed the relationship forward faster.
