Nick O'Flaherty and Kelly Abbott had their happy ending in sight when a friend’s call for help almost ended with them losing it to the blade of a knife. Now, in the aftermath of near-disaster, both men are trying to heal and move on.
Moving on together, though, is harder than either of them realized it would be. Kelly struggles with simply being a lover instead of the Doc, while Nick is mired in his recovery. The distance between them inches along in stilted silence.
Desperately seeking solace, Nick finally gathers the courage to sort through the possessions his dear friend and fellow Sidewinder teammate Elias Sanchez left him when he died. Instead of comforting memories, Nick and Kelly find a stack of letters and strict instructions from Eli that prompt them to send out a call for assistance. With Eli’s letters in hand, Sidewinder sets out on one last mission together, seeking peace and absolution from beyond the grave—and from each other.

I found Part & Parcel a little slow to get going. I wasn’t sure where the book was headed either. In the end I still thoroughly enjoyed it though.
The book starts off with a glimpse into Sidewinder life in 1999. The next date readers are given is 2013. I thought that was a more recent memory. The dates stay with 2013 and when Elias Sanchez was alive and the men we have come to know were still a very active Sidewinder team. It took me a long while to figure out this book is present time at 2013. I honestly do not remember what year Crash and Burn took place in but the third Sidewinder book picks up shortly after the end of that one so apparently 2013. Now because I was trying to figure out timewise where this book was it took me a little while to get on board.
At about halfway through readers are swept up into the Great Sanchez Trek of 2013 and once I got caught up in that the momentum kept my full rapt attention till the very end. This trip of Sidewinder plus Zane and kitties allow readers (and Zane) to get to know the one teammate that has never been present, Eli. Eli’s mother gave Nick a box at her son’s funeral. Nick put it aside to deal with it at a later time. While convalescing on the Fiddler after injuries he sustained in Crash & Burn the box catches his attention and Nick realizes it’s past time to open it. Opening it puts the guys back together for a shenanigan filled road trip, one that mimics their last road trip as a team.
Kelly and Nick are still trying to find the steady footing of their relationship. They are both caught up in “secrets and lies and all that shit.” Many of the Sidewinder men have some guilty feelings about things they have kept bottled up for entirely too long. Much of that is flowing over into Kelly and Nick’s relationship. The letters Eli has them following has them opening up in ways they never thought they needed. They are sharing Eli stories, sharing secrets, and strengthening the bonds that have always been there. This is a great addition to the world that Abigail Roux has created.
