From Emma Cane, Jennifer Ryan, and Katie Lane come three wildly romantic holiday stories featuring snowstorms, proposals, a sleigh ride … and, yes, cowboys.

The Christmas Cabin by Emma Cane

Flames 1

While hiking through the woods in search of a Christmas tree, Sandy and her son Nate get trapped in a snowstorm.  Taking shelter in a cabin they are surprised when another hiker appears at the cabin seeking shelter.  Doug had been hunting on his families ranch a few days before Christmas when the snowstorm comes up and causes him to seek shelter in an old cabin.  When he gets there he finds a woman and her son taking shelter there as well.

This is a nice sweet story that takes place  few days before Christmas.  There are quite a few serious issues that are briefly addressed from Sandy’s multiple sclerosis and her husband leaving her to Doug’s father’s cancer.  We also have some light elements as Sandy and Nate decorate the cabin and they all play games to stay entertained. When Nate goes to sleep at night Doug and Sandy talk and the attraction between them grows.  There are a few kisses but that’s all we get since there is a child in the one bedroom cabin with them.

While this was a very short novella I did enjoy the characters and the writing.  I will be looking for more from this author.

Caleb is fresh out of the military and staying with is friend Jack at his ranch when he meets Jack’s sister, Summer.  Even though they are attracted to each other, Caleb knows you never date a friends sister so he keeps his distance.  Summer knows that Caleb has feelings for her so she temps him to take a chance on a relationship with her.

I really loved this story.  Caleb is a great somewhat tortured hero with is memories from war keeping him awake and giving him nightmares.  He is sweet and honorable and just an all around great guy.  He did have his alpha moments and get dominant but they just added to him.  When he’s with Summer he’s sweet and protective, making her feel like the only woman in the world.

I was happy that after they worked through their reasons not to be together that we got quite a bit of them as a couple.  I liked seeing them interact and getting more of their happily ever after than I expected.  A great Christmas romance!

Flames 2

Alana is tired of the men she has been meeting in her native Hawaii.  Most of them are just passing through or are only wanting to have a good time.  So she decides to go online to find a man that is more intellectual and doesn’t have trouble committing.  When she is matched with Clint she thinks is a match made in heaven but is leery of flying to visit him for the holidays.  On an impulse she hops so flight but gets stranded in a snow storm before reaching the house.  When she is found by a cowboy on horseback she is faced with the possibility that maybe a nice stable man isn’t what she wants.

I don’t want to give too much away as there are a few twists and turns but I really enjoyed this story.  The characters are funny and relatable.  There are some mistakes made on both sides of the relationship but that was what made them more likeable.  The sexy cowboy and the somewhat reserved Alana strike sparks off each other but they get along great.

We don’t get too much of the Christmas theme, just decorating a tree and knowing what time of year it is.  The story focuses more on the characters and how they overcome their misconceptions and find love.  A great ending to the anthology! Lyrical Press
